Katsushika Hokusai, a famous ukiyo-e painter of the Edo period, is not merely best known for his Japanese landscape painting, but also the flower and bird series. The rich and elegant colours of his artwork has caused great influence to the European artists such as Vincent Willem van Gogh.
The Karuizawa "Flower & Bird" series is a collection of total 4 bottles. All of them were distilled in 2000 and single cask bottling with a limited outturn. Each label featuring a painting of Hokusai's romantic flower and bird artwork.
The label of Cask #7377 is "Bullfinch and Weeping Cherry" with a poem by the shamisen master Sugano Joyu II (1784-1841), poetry name Senraian Setsuman: "Tori hitotsu/ nurete dekeri/ asa sakura" meaning the feather of a little bird was moist with the morning dew on a cherry tree in Spring.
